GCW-era fighters (in sufficient numbers, at least twelve) with a full stock of warheads are capable, if well-flown, of taking down a capital ship. Seeing as the X-Wing books are canon, as are all the other books (Thrawn Trilogy comes to mind) where starfighters do destroy capital ships.

But this isn't GCW-era. These are crappy little unshielded bastards with laser cannons and weak warheads that probably are much slower than GCW-era vessels by GCW standards...

If you count the books, slanted as they are, you have to count actually seeing a swarm of Sith Fighters shred Republic capital ships as well. The gap is smaller in this.

I am not saying that a lone fighter can match a capital ship, or that fighters are particularly effective compared to more familiar examples. But a good analogy would be what you see in Battlestar Galactica. Fighters can harass and do pinpoint damage while the capital ships slug it out. And in large numbers, they can take on small capital ships on their own.

The capital ships of this era are weak enough to get overwhelmed by simple laser-cannon blasts (in sufficient quantity) and destroyed. Got it. Hence the Judicials' small, punchy, fast 'capital ships' which might have a chance against fighters more than a big lumbering beast.

And yes...if you've agreed the numbers.
